Middle East Lesson Plans

Students participate in a role play in which they are shopping for souvenirs in the Middle East. Using maps, they locate the Middle East and identify each country within the region. They create a key map for the types of souvenirs that are found in the different cities.

Learners engage in a lesson that is about the concept of the Middle East Mandate System. They conduct research using a variety of resources and the lesson includes some sample websites that can be used. Learners also answer questions that are included in the lesson to guide the research.

Students explore Middle Eastern leaders by viewing clips from United Streaming. In this Middle East lesson, students create an overview of a Middle Eastern leader after answering research questions about a specific leader. Students make predictions about future world views.

In this lesson students (diversity of learners) explore The Middle East in a variety of ways. They cover a diverse section of concepts: geography, economics, research communications skills, both oral and visual. In this lesson students write reflections of their studies and conclusions of text.

Students examine the arts of the Middle East, Asia and Africa. After viewing films, they discuss the views of the various characters and identify the differences in the cultures presented. They also use the internet to evaluate various pieces of artwork and share their opinions with the class.

Students complete activities to study the traveling Jewish theatre and the ideas of tolerance. In this theatre study lesson, students read information about the Traveling Jewish Theatre and learn about the project to unit artists from the US and the Middle East, Jews and Muslims, and Israelis and Palestinians. Students complete several activities to learn how theatre can help students explore important social issues.

Students explore current social issues in the Middle East to create their own student television programs for Palestinian and Israeli Students.

In this lesson students examine the stereotypes used to classify the Middle East. After taking a regional literacy survey, they discover their own global awareness. They discuss how stereotypes are formed and how they persist over time if not stopped.

9th graders, in groups, study current events in the Middle East

In this lesson students discuss the historical conflicts in Israel and the Middle East after reading an article from The New York Times as a class. In this lesson students are divided into groups after the discussion and research parties of interest in the Middle East peace process.
