Musician Lesson Plans

Students practice appropriate concert etiquette by role-playing and attending concerts, They identify musicians by exploring the roles of musicians including performers, conductors and composers.
Learners identify and interpret what legendary traditional musicians of Louisiana that allows them to hear new genres of traditional music. They also identify what it means to be a legendary artist and read, write, and create a project about these extraordinary figures.
Learners explore the connection between music and culture. In this Spanish music lesson, students label maps to show the Spanish speaking countries. Learners study Spanish musicians, label where they live on the maps and write a report about their lives. Students share their reports with the class.
Students research and collect information about a musician that they are interested in. They then incorporate their information into a PowerPoint presentation which includes pictures and audio files, and share their slide show with the rest of the class.
Young scholars view the AMERICAN MASTERS film "Muddy Waters: Can't Be Satisfied" and research him using the Guided Reading strategy. They examine the influential musician's childhood and trace his journey from the Mississippi Delta to Chicago. They also focus their research on the Great Migration from the 1920s to the 1970s as they create a travel package for history buffs and Blues music enthusiasts.
Fifth graders research the life and contributions of a Jazz musician. They listen to samples of Jazz music, conduct research, and write three paragraphs about a selected Jazz musician. Students include information about the type of music played by their chosen musician and how that musician influenced jazz music.
Students research a musician or composer of their choice and present their research through a written paper and free choice activity. This lesson can be done over the course of five to six classes with some homework. The paper correlates with the English Language Arts Curriculum as set forth by the NC Standards.

Students listen to music samples and write a short biographical paragraph on the entertainer they chose.
Students view a video about street musicians/singers and then perform in a small ensemble, recognizing that there is no real star of an ensemble.
