Learners gather (research) information on neuron structure and action potential. Students are guided to make inferences about the synapse and its relationship to neurotransmitter release and action. They are also guided to make inferences about how neurotransmitters and drugs affect synapses and how these actions may be related to diseases of the nervous system and ultimately behavior.
Fourth graders discover how the brain receives messages from the body. In this nervous system lesson, 4th graders analyze the nervous system through problem-solving in various games.
Eighth graders identify and describe the components of various body systems. They create vocabulary flash cards identifying the excretory, digestive, immune, and nervous systems and describing their functions. Students complete a categoriztion of the organs involved in each system.
Learners investigate and then build neurons in this lesson. They are examined as key parts of the brain and nervous system and seen as different from normal cells.
Students discover the use of all their five senses and learn about the nervous system. The writer used this activity in a fourth-grade classroom and in a camp setting for college students. The teacher found this to be fun, challenging, and educational for all age levels.
Young scholars discover the use of all their five senses and learn about the nervous system. Students access how each of their five senses help them identify the world around them. Discuss with young scholars how dependent they are on each of their senses.
Learners investigate the aging brain and its relationship to the occurrence of Alzheimer's disease. They need to have prior knowledge of brain and nervous system anatomy in order to participate in this lesson. Students compare an aging brain and one that is younger.
Students create a brochure outlining the functions and organization of the body's nervous system. They compare it to a modern day security system.
Learners participate in an activity that demonstrates reaction times. They begin a KWL chart about the function of the nervous system. They watch video to examine the function of the nervous system and to study its four main parts. They complete a worksheet after watching the video and complete the KWL chart.
Students work in groups to research the human body. They find information on the digestive, circulatory and nervous systems, identify ways they can keep these systems healthy and present their findings to the class.
