Students investigate how the Nile River helped the Egyptians. In this geography lesson, students identify the Nile River on a map and use a graphic organizer to research the Nile River. Students investigate how the Nile River helped the Egyptians long ago.
Students analyze the interrelationships between physical systems (such as rivers) and human settlements and activities. This lesson asks them to examine the current water situation in the Nile River region.
Students complete a variety of activities to learn about Egypt. In this learning about lesson, students locate the country on a map, discuss vocabulary related to it, read a story about a journey down the Nile River and research animals native to the area. Students work in groups to find interesting information about Egypt that would attract tourists to the country and create the perfect advertisement.
Seventh graders research where Egypt is in the world. They describe its geographical setting and locate the major cities, rivers, regions, and climate. They determine that the Nile River was the source of life in Ancient Egypt. They examine the geographical, cultural and economic significance of the Nile River Valley.
Sixth graders are introduced to the basics of ancient Egypt focusing on the Nile River and the necessity of the river. The students work in small groups and become "experts" on the given topic and then present the information that was discussed and learned.
Students simulate a journey down the Nile River to appreciate the river's size and the slow pace of ancient travel. They develop a sense of the great length of the Nile River and the slow nature of travel in ancient times.
Young scholars create a game board that lists the cities along the Nile River with markers of boats, cars, camels, feet, train, etc.
Fifth graders participate in a mystery instructional activity that requires them to gather clues and identify the Nile River delta. In this geographical features instructional activity, 5th graders examine images and maps of the Nile as they work to figure out where in the world they are.
Students, after watching Boats in Ancient Egypt, calculate the length of a journey down the Nile River given various weather and water-current conditions.
Sixth graders choose a specific topic (art, dress/jewelry, family life, religion, Nile River, hieroglyphics, pharaohs, and pyramids), research the topic, and write a three-page report.
