Noise pollution Lesson Plans

Students take a closer look at the environmental costs of flying. In this current events instructional activity, students research the noted Web sites regarding the Airbus, noise pollution, and oil use associated with airline travel. Students brainstorm solutions to the issues.

Students observe a variety of sounds which can be heard within their schoolyard habitat by sitting quietly by themselves for five minutes, listening, and then recording the sounds around them by drawing them.

Young scholars complete a worksheet while watching a film about whales. They examine the human impact on whale migration and identify adaptations the whale has acquired in able to survive. They discover how global warming has effected the whales as well.

Students create model coral reefs showing surface area and including examples of communities.  In this coral reef lesson, students research and explore the functions or benefits from a coral reef.  Students design a benthic habitat. Students calculate the surface area of various shapes.  Students will create a habitat that shows 400cm squared.

Students find similarities and differences between a biotrope habitat and an ecosystem.  In this hardbottom biotrope lesson, students research and respond to inquiry questions about a biotrope.  Students identify three biotropes in the Gulf of Mexico. 

Investigate the coral reefs around Mokolai Island, Hawaii by researching and writing about improving the reef ecosystem.  Students map threats to the ecosystem and use the list of key words to assist in their descriptions

Students complete a worksheet while viewing a film about sharks. They examine the reasons for overfishing of the oceans. They identify predator-prey relationships as well.

Students complete a worksheet while viewing a video about the oceans. They locate the oceans on a map and identify positive and negative ways in which humans have impacted them. They discuss any questions at the end of the lesson.

Students explore relict species. In this ancialine cave lesson, students identify relict species associated with anchialine caves, and explain the importance of preserving anchialine caves and species.

Students explain the Chatelier's Principle. In this pH lesson, students identify factors that resist changes in pH of the ocean and why the ocean is becoming more acidic.
