Students investigate the various aspects associated with living things while also concentrating on their basic needs. They explore the aspects of movement and growth in plants and animals. This is done through research and other different activities.
3rd graders will participate in a variety of tasks which help them to understand the basic concepts of plant growth. Research and reporting skills are developed as they gather information from various sources related to the use of plants by humans for food, shelter and clothing, and in the production of various products.
First graders complete a unit on oceans. They build models of the ocean, make flipbooks, and perform an experiment to see which items float in salt water and freshwater.
Young scholars estimate the size of sea turtles by crumbling pieces of newspaper and placing them in a trash bag. they compare their turtle with one in a video. They illustrate the turtle's life cycle and piece together teacher-prepared turtle shell parts.

Students explore sea turtles. They create paper plate sea turtles and brainstorm other organisms that live in the sea turtle's habitat. They role-play scenes from a nonfiction book, A Baby Sea Turtle's Journey. They play a game role-playing baby sea turtles and the actions they perform.
Third graders explore and research ocean life. In this ocean life cross curriculum biology and literacy lesson, 3rd graders compare and contrast Sponge Bob with real ocean life, then examine and describe dried ocean life creatures. Students identify the parts of a fish and view several related websites and video clips. Students research one sea creature and present their findings to the class.
Students begin with a hands-on technology research activity. They research the topic of ocean life through connecting Internet links on the topicquest page that I developed for my field class students.
Students study ocean life while practicing their reading comprehension, note taking, and writing skills. In this ocean life lesson, students read about research that is taking place at field sites, conduct water research, and discover information about dolphins.
Students research life forms of both tropical coral reefs and deep-sea coral reefs to discover the biodiversity of the ecosystems. They compare and contrast the diversity and adaptations of the two eco-systems, and draw a picture showing the adaptations.
