Students outline a fictional trip on a train through the state of Illinois and then compose a short story using the information on their outline.
Fourth graders design outlines for PowerPoint presentations before they begin computer input. They apply previous research of the First Thanksgiving to their outline by completing four written pages that include their research facts and group information.
Students brainstorm story idea in preparation of writing an expressive essay. They study how to outline essays to assist them in writing an expressive essay. Each students conclusion should summarize their main idea and restate their feelings and beliefs.
Pupils explore the elements of a narrative for its purpose, type of audience, mood, main character, minor characters, setting, and conflicts in the story. A story outline is developed and a five paragraph essay composed in this lesson.
In this interesting outlining lesson, 5th graders create a house using materials in a shoe box based on an outline they are given. First, students discuss how one can find a main idea, supporting paragraphs, and facts within paragraphs in informational text. Then, in groups of four, students are given shoeboxes and a variety of materials in order to construct a house with two rooms. A worksheet is embedded in the plan which serves as an outline for their house construction.
Students read about the medical history of various children. In this health care activity series, students analyze their medical condition and research a possible treatment plan. They outline their findings and discuss them in class.
Young scholars compare various aspects of their lives with those of their parents or guardians to find out how they are different, and consider cultural gap between parents and their children by reading and discussing article, "??omg my mom joined facebook!!?" Students then work in groups to prepare course outlines and lesson plans designed to teach adults what they need to know to keep up with technology popular with today's youth.
Twelfth graders identify and define in writing, various economic terms by conducting a Web search. In this macroeconomics lesson plan, 12th graders explain the development process and purpose of the Federal Reserve's Beige Book by conducting a search and completing a question sheet. Students also list and describe the significant of major economic sectors outlined in the Beige Book.
Students define the term "culture." They sketch images reflecting symbols of their respective cultures to aid in the creation of outlines for exhibits to be included in a classroom fair. They explore African-American artifacts by reading and discussing the article, "Black History Trove, a Life's Work, Seeks Museum." Also, they write reaction papers responding to a quotation about the value of culture.
Students create self-portraits as an ice breaker at the beginning of the year. In this self portrait lesson plan students use generic child shaped outlines. Students include information about themselves in their outline such as hair color, skin and eye color and favorite clothes and footwear. Students share and prepare an exhibit. Students become more accepting of differences among ethnic groups.
