Because of the range in year levels and subjects covered it is impossible to find time to make my own resources for many of the lessons. Students research National monuments. In this paragraph writing lesson, students research and write a descriptive paragraph on a favorite Washington D.C. monument. Students complete a 6 step re-writing process to ensure they write their best product.
Students write descriptive paragraphs. In this paragraph lesson, students discover the parts of a paragraph by using the "hamburger model." They write a paragraph on a central idea and work in pairs to revise and edit.
Students explore expository writing. In this descriptive paragraph writing lesson, students brainstorm prior knowledge about the changing seasons in Ohio. Students explore and describe seasonal items in plastic baggies, view seasonal pictures from clipart, and complete a "changing seasons" graphic organizer. Students write and revise a paragraph using this information. Students use a rubric to evaluate their writing.
Learners examine paragraph structure, the writing process, and then design a model for the process. In this writing skills lesson, learners explore paragraphs using the SmartBoard. Learners create a class T-chart about paragraph structure and study the structure on a Venn diagram. Learners then practice finding main idea and details in paragraphs and develop a tool for paragraph writing using class materials.
Learners create a paragraph using the GADS method of paragraph writing. Working in small groups, learners are given individual sentences that comprise a whole paragraph. Student groups decide on the proper order for their sentences in order to create a paragraph.
Students investigate the elements found in a media image. The image is used to compose a descriptive paragraph. They exchange papers to discuss the writing and make changes using constructive criticism. Students also make connections with how pictures can convey emotions.
In this lesson 4th graders write expository paragraphs in this teacher led activity. They work sentence by sentence through paragraph structure while the teacher uses a beach ball to choose the next student to add to the paragraph using appropriate transitions.

In this writing structure lesson, students identify the importance of a topic and transition when writing descriptive sentences about a subject. Students describe a single animal while using vocabulary, proper paragraph form and descriptive details.
Learners gain the necessary skills to write a descriptive paragraph. They see the evaluation and decision making process that are used in good wriitng. The bible is used to see illustrations and then used to paint a picture in writing. Not only do learners use their senses, they edit, proofread, reviese and publish their paragraph.
