Students examine places in nature where patterns can be observed by looking through a number of books after watching a teacher PowerPoint presentation. They illustrate a pattern in nature.
Fifth graders explore and use patterns to solve a variety of problems. They analyze a flowchart of shapes and determine what numbers belong in the shapes, then create a similar problem. Next students work through two problems involving patterns on charts as a class, then independently complete a worksheet.
Learners explore patterns. Given a set of toothpicks, students make squares out of the fewest possible toothpicks and then identify the next terms in the sequence. They experiment with other designs using triangles, hexagons, and adding machine tape to determine new patterns. Learners analyze and predict the patterns.
Learners explore patterns in the classroom. In this patterns in the classroom lesson, students determine the number of legs there are at their table and classroom using the knowledge that everyone has two legs. Learners use the calculator to keep track of the times legs are counted. Students develop their own patterns by adding different addends together. Learners compare two different number patterns.
Students investigate patterns. In this Algebra I/Geometry instructional activity, students explore patterns generated by constructing a sequence of similar shapes and finding the perimeter. Students analyze data, draw conclusions and make predictions regarding these patterns.
Students explore the concept of patterns. In this patterns lesson, students use their Ti-Nspire to determine linear, quadratic, and geometric patterns. Students notice that the area of a rectangle creates a quadratic width v. area graph.
Fourth graders investigate patterns and sequences. For this patterns and sequences lesson, 4th graders use a hundreds chart to build recurring patterns. Students skip count by threes and fives on a hundreds chart by coloring multiples of threes and fives different colors. Students also make a growing pattern on the hundreds chart by coloring groupings of squares.
Students analyze, create and record repeating patterns. In this geometry activity, students create shapes using patterns and keep track of the different shapes. transformation and reflections they incorporate into their pattern.
Students create a pattern out of pattern blocks. In this math lesson plan, students work with a partner to investigate the pattern they have. Within that group, students continue to design the pattern by adding the next two pieces. Additionally, students work independently to predict, draw and write about the 8th piece of the pattern. This lesson plan includes vocabulary to help the students name the shapes. Students share with others. This lesson plan includes two assessments.
High school learners identify and color-code thematic and organizational patterns found a piece of literature. They use two-column notetaking to highlight how these patterns help give a story focus and organization.
