Plant Pathogen Lesson Plans

Students examine the role of plant pathogens on Earth and in space. In groups, they use their observation skills to develop hypothesis on whether the plants are virus infected or were grown in poor conditions. They design a new experiment to test new methods to prevent the spread of pathogens to food production.

Students conduct a series of experiments on mulching. In this earth science lesson, students discuss the benefits of mulching on soil. They explore how different types of mulch affect plant growth.

Young scholars examine the characteristics of fungi. For this biology lesson, students investigate the factors needed for fungi growth. They collect data and observations and write a report about them.

Pupils identify the factors that could influence disease development in space and the possible sources of microbe contamination. In groups, they compare and contrast the effect of pathogens on plants grown in a hydroponic system verses soil. They record the symptoms by comparing inoculated plants to healthy plants.

Students study fungus, its reproduction and uses.  In this eukaryote lesson students complete several fungal experiments.
