First graders create games of their choice to be played with the class to reinforce their knowledge of prefixes. This six-day lesson plan includes an excellent worksheet and assessment. I like the use of educational games!

This lesson ties in technology by using computers for the story.
Practice adding prefixes and suffixes to root words. Young writers discuss the meanings of root word, suffix, and prefix, and work on creating new words by thinking of words as things that can grow, like a tree. They create a tree picture that shows how prefixes and suffixes make root words "grow."
Ninth graders examine prefixes, suffixes, and roots with Greek and Latin origins. They create a class vocabulary tree, writing roots on the bottom of the tree, and words and definitions related to the root on the branches of the tree. Students also write sentences using the words from the tree.
Eighth graders complete activities to spell words using prefixes. In this prefixes lesson plan, 8th graders select the correct prefix for the given examples and write the definition for the word. Students create a contextually correct sentence for the words.
High schoolers use dictionaries to find words in the English language that use metric prefixes. In this metric system lesson, learners discuss metric prefixes. They work in a group using a dictionary to write words that contain the prefixes.
Learners find out the meaning for prefixes used in math vocabulary. By dissecting words used in math everyday, they figure out what the prefix indicates and what the word means. A variety of well-layed out worksheets and activities provide multiple ways for kids to interact with these prefixes.
