Students complete a four week unit examining the art of contemporary artists of New Zealand. They define key vocabulary terms, conduct Internet research on a selected artist, create a visual diary, and create an artwork in the style of their selected artist.
Students examine how the government functions in New Zealand. They brainstorm words about government or democracy with a partner, define key vocabulary terms, play vocabulary bingo, conduct Internet research, and create a chart of New Zealand's political parties.
First graders study personal space and movement. They move in these various ways skipping, leaping, running, twirling, sliding, and walking to reinforce their learning of alphabet sounds through dance. The remember the sound by using dance to set it in their minds.
Students discuss a trip from England to Virginia, then read a news article about the building of Jamestown in 1607. In this U.S. history and current events lesson, the teacher introduces the article with map and vocabulary activities, then students read the news piece and participate in a class discussion. Lesson includes interdisciplinary follow-up activities.
Students explore the idea that progress for some might not mean progress for all. In this Native American lesson plan, students recognize different viewpoints about historical events through the study of primary documents. Students decipher the meaning of primary documents and write a relevant question.

Third graders compare creating fractions from pieces of paper to chips. In this fraction lesson, 3rd graders begin with a fractional part and work back to a whole. Students order fractions from smallest to largest. Students complete a worksheet to find the missing pieces to create a whole.
Students prepare menus for different people with different levels of fitness and physical conditions. In this food and fitness lesson plan, students analyze different people's food and fitness issues, and design a healthy menu for each of them.
