Circles-Diameter, Circumference, Radius and the Discovery of Pi

Seventh graders measure the diameter, circumference and radius of a circle and find pi using the diameter and circumference. In this geometry lesson, 7th graders work in groups to find the diameter, radius, and circumference of circles. They observe the relationship between the circumference and the radius and divide them for each circle. They compare their answers to the value of pi.

Don't Be a Square

Students analyze the relationship between radius and diameter.  Students read Sir Cumference and the First Round Table then take measurements of circular items from around the room.  Students compute the radius, diameter and circumference of each drawing and record data on a chart.

Circumference, Diameter, Radius

Sixth graders will determine the circumference, diameter, and radius of a circle. In this circle lesson plan, 6th graders will measure the appropriate amount to find these measurements on circles.

Radius, Diameter, and Circumference of a Circle

Tenth graders investigate circle relationships.  For this geometry lesson, 10th graders explore the relationship between the radius and the diameter and between the circumference and the diameter.  The dynamic nature of Cabri allows students to form and verify conjectures.

Radius, Diameter and Area

Young scholars identify the radius and diameter of a circle. In this geometry lesson plan, students calculate the volume and area of a cylinder and circle. They relate the circumference of a circle to Pi.

What's the RDC of Your Snowball

Students read the story Sir Cumference to review key vocabulary. In this geometry lesson, students get into groups to record the radius, circumference, and diameter of different sized snowball circles. Students write a story about a day in the life of a snowball and incorporate the vocabulary used threw-out the lesson.

Equations of Circles

Students explore the concept of circles. In this circles lesson, students construct a circle using Cabri Jr. Students determine the equation of the circle they drew by finding the center and the radius. Students use the distance formula to derive the equation of their circle.

Let's Go Full Circle - Discovering th Parts of the Circle

Learners explore the concept of circles.  In this circles lesson, students use the GeoMaster application on their graphing calculator to draw circles.  Learners identify and construct parts of the circle such as diameter, radius, and chord.

Area of Triangle using the Semi-Perimeter and Radius

Students investigate the properties of circles. For this geometry lesson, students calculate the area and perimeter of a triangle. They identify the perimeter and radius length of a circle.

Circumference and Areas of Circles

Seventh graders listen to a scenario about a puppy and use the scenario to develop formulas to find the area of a circle. In this circumference lesson, 7th graders understand how to find the radius, diameter, area of a circle and circumference. Students use the "Thinkfinity" tool to investigate circles. Students input data and create a table. Students use the formulas to solve problems.
