Reformation Lesson Plans

Students discover the Medieval reformation. For this ethics lesson, students simulate council and government bodies to determine responses to various opinions regarding religion and ethics. They determine what postilions to take and why based on their understanding of the period.

Students examine the need for Reformation of the church. In this Reformation lesson, students understand our freedom in Christ as compared to receiving salvation through actions. Students participate in an activity that models how people used to "pay" for sins with money.

Eleventh graders examine the political reform movement in South Carolina spearheaded by "Pitchfork" Ben Tillman. In this South Carolina history lesson, 11th graders examine primary and secondary sources regarding Tillman and his vision. Students take tests over the material.

Students explore the characteristics of different religions and religious beliefs.  In this World History lesson, students research the history of the Reformed, Catholics and Lutherans, then complete several activities to reinforce their findings and knowledge.

Students explore primary sources about immigration. In this research lesson, students will use passages from a variety of sources to assist them in understanding this issues or immigration. Students will engage in a class discussion regarding the steps needed for immigration reform in the 21st century.

Students reflect on the main concepts of the Reformation.  In this World History lesson, students view several paintings and images from the Reformation, then answer questions about each of them.

Students develop arguments for and against campaign finance reform, examine federal and state laws that attempt to limit contributions to political candidates, evaluate various plans for campaign finance reform and formulate their own programs.

Students calculate how much of each paycheck is deducted into the Medicare system, explain the need for health insurance and Medicare, and work in small groups to develop their own plan to reform Medicare.

Seventh graders interpret historical evidence presented in primary and secondary resources. In this American reformers lesson, 7th graders research the accomplishments of selected reformers. Students then use the information they uncover to hold Meet the Press-style interviews with the reformers.

Students examine the 1883 Pendleton Civil Service Reform Act. They discuss the spoils system, answer discussion questions, read and analyze speeches, complete a worksheet summarizing their findings, and report their findings to the class.
