The Great Fire of Saint John: Producing Historic Plays

Students produce a play about their community. In this historic play lesson, students research their community and script historic play books that provide a background about their community.

 

Heroes and Heroines: King David, Julius Caesar, Cleopatra and Napoleon

Students identify and examine four heroes from history and imaginative literature. They discuss the characteristics of a hero and share perceptions of what makes a hero. They learn about Martin Luther King's, "I Have a Dream Speech." They work with a partner to research a philanthropist, create a poster, and add it to a "Wall of Philanthropists" display.

Tenth graders examine the significant issues currently surrounding the survival of the Atlantic salmon. They analyze the direct impacts humans have on the population of salmon. Using salmon as a main topic, 10th graders research issues a specific park is facing.

 

Water - Vulnerable to Climate Change

Students discuss how changes in the climate and weather can affect change in their own lives. For this climate change lesson plan, students use an atlas and answer short answer questions.

 

11th Grade Reading Comprehension Lesson Plan--Context Vocabulary

Social Studies: Grab Day at the Pueblo

Students develop a cultural understanding of "Grab Day." Using magazines, they clip out pictures to make collages of items thrown down to people on this day. Students label the items in their collages.
