Students are introduced to web search, students also practice navigating an informational site to explore more information about the solar system. It is meant to take up very little time (max 20 minutes). They find out what they can discover about our amazing solar system when they complete this webquest.
Students explore Earth science by completing a travel brochure. In this solar system lesson, students research the nine planets in our space system on-line and using an interactive encyclopedia program. Students utilize graphics and Microsoft Office to create pamphlets which entice fellow classmates to visit a foreign planet.
Students discover our Solar System by creating miniature models. In this space science lesson plan, students utilize a clothesline, construction paper and clothespins to recreate the solar system within their classroom. Students create a drawing of the Solar System they can bring home and study.
Students create a scaled-down model of the solar system. They complete a chart and calculations, and construct the sun and planets using scaled-down diameter and the appropriate distance from the sun.
Students construct a solar system from candies. They learn general information about the order of the planets and a few clues about their basic color and size characteristics.
Student map a path through the Solar System using facts about the planets. Working with a partner, they play a game and assume the roles of Tour Guide and Visitor. They sit back-to-back with a Map and Destination Information and the Tour Guide prepares a tour for their partner using only clues from the Destination sheet. Visitors guess where to go and try to make it to the correct final destination.
Sixth graders research planets in the solar system. In this solar system lesson, 6th graders research planets using Internet resources. In small groups, students construct a written summary of factual information regarding the assigned planet. Students create a slapastory account and upload the summaries to the Internet site.
Students explore solar system by selecting one planet and ascertaining facts and doing research about the planet for the purpose of creating a travel brochure. In addition to the travel brochure the students are to design a flag to represent their planet.
Students investigate the solar system and its moons. They conduct research in groups to find information. Also the teacher uses models of the planets in order to teach different facts about the solar system through the use of demonstrations.
Students participate in an internet based workshop about the solar system. They recognize the identifiable features of the planets and study their images. Afterward, they answer discussion questions in their journals.
