Life Systems

In the first section, young scholars will create a diorama, that includes a local habitat and shows the plants, animals, and non-living components needed to sustain the area. Students will be using their notes and learning logs for reference, as well as doing research to ensure that they have a viable habitat. In the second section, young scholars write a test. Teachers will assess the expectations using information collected from both activities.

A Day In The Life of a Pioneer Child

Third graders research the life of a pioneer child. Through the use of the internet and other sources, 3rd graders collect and organize information about pioneer children. They create a journal, using complete sentences, explaining their information. Students revise and edit their work.

 

Inside Outside: Habitats and Human Organ Systems

Students examine the way habitats and human organ systems function. In groups, they role play the role of a government group assigned to determine if a settlement can make their home in a specific area. They must discover how humans and the environment might be effected if the area is settled.

 

Tiny Town- Structures And Movement

Students investigate the concept of structures and how they are used in nature and the world of human civilization. The structures have various types and functions that are identified. They create mechanisms to help move objects during simple lab projects.

Light, Sound and Energy

The young scholars will be given opportunities to work independently and in teacher-directed situations to study and discover the many facets of light and sound, and the uses of energy in our environment. The grade 4 students will learn the properties and characteristics of light and sound. They will construct optical devices and musical instruments that demonstrate their knowledge.

Bubble in the Hot Tub

Students participate in a Science and Technology unit designed to introduce the particle theory through drama, demonstrations, and hands-on investigations. They assume the role of engineers and design and build a hot tub for their community pool. Project is divided into subtasks in order to integrate necessary information for culminating task.
