Students become spelling detectives as they seek out spelling errors. They hunt down the spelling errors in a short passage of high-interest current events text.
Students learn to recognize spelling errors and correct them. For this proofreading lesson, students observe as the teacher models reading a story backwards for errors. Students take out their drafts of stories and correct them by reading backwards.
Students examine how to identify grammar and spelling errors in an essay using the features of Word after the teacher uses the highlight feature. They correct the errors using Word's table feature by making a table that shows the error and the correction.
Ninth graders decode a sentence with many spelling errors in order to reinforce the importance of spelling in composition. Then, 9th graders copy common spelling rules and apply them by completing several examples.
Third graders write a fact-based report using their handout, which they completed during the field trip and in class, without grammatical, capitalization, and spelling errors. They create a PowerPoint slide presentation using their handouts and one picture from clip art.
Students submit an essay in Word, identify grammar and spelling errors in the essay, and then correct those errors using Word's table feature.
Students participate in a variety of lessons and activities to learn about Diego Rivera and his art. They write a paper about him and view samples of his art work. Based on a piece of Diego Rivera's art, students write a creative story. They create metaphors and similes to go with the art. Students finish the unit by creating a group mural.
Seventh graders discuss the goals of the lesson plan. They write on the board a sequence of sentences describing the season, and the type of weather. Students describe how many, what color, and what each piece of clothing is illustrated by a teacher provided illustration or drawing. Students read and discuss a selection about the climate in Chile, looking for weather expressions.
Third graders engage in the process of writing a five-paragraph paper. The paper integrates elements science or social studies in this six lessons unit. Topics are selected, facts are researched, notes are taken, and work is edited in the creation of a paper. A most-impressive lesson which has everything you need to successfully-implement it.
In this outstanding language arts lesson, 4th graders study the difference between simile and metaphor, and create a writing sample which uses both. After a class discussion, students practice differentiating between simile and metaphor on a worksheet embedded in the plan. There is an excellent rubric that goes with the writing sample as well.
