Lesson Plans and Worksheets
As the International Teacher for Miina Härma Gumnaasium in Tartu, Estonia, I teach classes in English that include children from Estonia, Romania, Latvia, Lithuania, and even Pakistan besides Britain and the United States. Lesson Planet helps me find many worksheets and lessons that feature hands-on activities, good graphic organizers, clear, simple language and diagrams, step-by-step math explanations. It is basically very useful for helping a teacher with a largely ESL population. Moreover, I must develop my own teaching materials since I follow the Estonian national curriculum PLUS the national standards of the students, which can be difficult to reconcile together -- never mind, trying to find a textbook that suits (and, I might add, English-language texts are not easily obtainable here).

Learners examine different parts of the computer and utilize the keyboard, mouse, printer drives, disks and CD's. They explore an Operating System which allows them to locate, open and close files and they are introduced to word processing and spreadsheets. They research the Internet and write a letter via E-mail.
Students discover the links between population and Congressional representation. In this government instructional activity, students research population statistics and create spreadsheets that compare population to the number of Congress members per state.
Students enter their grades into a spreadsheet program. They apply the formulas to determine the sum and average of the data set, their grades. They double check their spreadsheet work using a calculator.
Students discover the advantage of using spreadsheet software for calculations and learn the vocabulary involved. They learn to compute the mean, median, mode, and range of a set of data using the spreadsheet software.
Students examine the functions and uses of spreadsheets. They view and discuss a PowerPoint presentation, produce a spreadsheet that computes basic math functions, and graph their spreadsheet data.
Pupils create a "Santa" list of items that they would like for Christmas. They predict the prices before using the Internet to determine the actual prices. They create spreadsheets with their data and apply the appropriate formulas in this practical use of spreadsheets.
Students examine the proper technique for entering if-then statements in a spreadsheet. They examine how these spreadsheets can be used for study guides. They determine how to enter the correct formula to get the answers that is desired.
Eighth graders participate in a computer based Family Search Unit. They use multimedia resources to research their country of origin, conduct interviews, and use software to produce narratives, databases, spreadsheets and graphs in this unit.
Students use the Internet and research facts about the Oval Office. They create a budget to redecorate it using a spreadsheet to show the expenses. They create design boards and present findings in a slideshow presentation.
Students divide into teams to trade stocks and track progress of their Alabama Stock Market Simulation Portfolio by using the Internet and spreadsheet software. They use math concepts and research stock trends via the Internet.
