Statistics Lesson Plans

Learners collect data about the state they live in. In this statistics lesson, learners collect and analyze data as they compare themselves to learners in other states. They analyze data about a person's education level, and median household income, as well as other data.

In this lesson learners examine statistics of teenagers using alcohol and marijuana. In groups, they brainstorm the reasons why they believe usage is higher than in years past. As a class, they role-play different roles in scenerios to help them realize the effect they are having on themselves and those around them. To end the lesson, they review the symptoms for someone high on drugs or alcohol.

Students read "Casey at the Bat" and then use individual player statistics (found through internet research)to determine if their players could be considered baseball "heroes". They must justify their choices for "hero" by creating spreadsheets and graph

In this lesson learners research different statistics to do with the Mississippi River. They answer questions about finding data and collect it by conducting research. The research is used to construct a data table. Then learners use the table to perform analysis.

Learners collect data from one of three selected biomes. Data are then organized and statistically analyzed. This project engages learners of different backgrounds grouped cooperatively in a relevant outdoor hands-on learning experience.

Students create graphs from given statistics.  In this graphing lesson, students examine yearly statistics regarding human geography.  They create pie charts or bar graphs from the data. 

In this lesson students analyze data and statistics about countries around the world. They read graphs and charts, color a world map to illustrate the top ten statistics about the world, and write a paragraph to summarize their information.

Learners view a video clip about seat belt use in the United States. They create their own study of seat belt use in their local community. They compare and contrast these results with national statistics.

Students read articles about various agricultural products and create a map using the statistics in the article.  In this agricultural statistics lesson, students look at the geography of the country and which products come from the different states.  Students record the information on a product map. Students complete a worksheet

This lesson has students collect snow samples around their school. They explore the concepts of density and phase change as well as the math skills of measurement and statistics. This lesson has students explore the water cycle through an interactive, down loadable software program.
