Teacher Resources Lesson Plans

Students investigate the concept of latitude and longitude while practicing this with maps. They use a teacher-selected reading and practice filling out a worksheet. They participate in a reinforcement activity using available teacher resources.

Sixth graders research Ancient Greek culture by acting in a play for the festival of Dionysus. In this Greek culture activity, 6th graders study an ancient Greek map and the Sarcophagus Dionysus from the Walters Art Museum website. Students perform a shape movement using Greek deity symbols and study a Greek theatre fact sheet. Students learn the Greek Gerenos Dance and act out a performance for the festival of Dionysus.

Students design questions that can be answered by collecting data.  In this line plotting lesson, students collect data and graph on a line plot on world records.

Students explore exponents and place value. In this place value lesson, students investigate the base 5 and base 2 systems. Students examine exponents and convert numbers from base 10 to base 5 while completing solar system activities. Resources are provided.

Students become familiar with local community life by gathering information and designing booklets which become part of a bulletin board display about the community. Each student creates a slide to contribute to a class presentation about the community and participates in presenting the information to students from a different community.

Second graders investigate air and water as two sources of energy. They determine that wind and moving water are renewable resources that have advantages and disadvantages in their use. Through the design and construction of wind- and water-propelled devices, they identify factors that affect the motion and control of such devices.

Place value to the millions is the focus of this math lesson. Third and fourth graders investigate multiple ways to represent a number. They examine place value while studying factual information about Pablo Picasso. Resources are provided.

Students explore two digit subtraction. In this subtraction lesson, students investigate multiple ways to subtract numbers involving regrouping. Resources are provided.

Fourth graders explore problem solving methods for two digit multiplication. For this multiplication lesson, 4th graders investigate traditional multiplication methods and compare those with lattice multiplication and partial products multiplication. Resources are provided.

Third graders construct numbers to the millions place. In this 30-page place value activity, learners create numbers and evaluate the place value of digits. They explore standard and expanded form of numbers. An incredible resource!
