Fantasy Baseball Part I

Students thematic unit based on the game of baseball to investigate number and number relations. They become familiarized with some of the basic terminology associated with the game. Pupils focus their attention on the actual statistical data included on the card and how to utilize this statistical data to determine the overall rating of a player's past performance.

 

Grammar and Writing: Writing Process and Action Verbs

Students review and revise their writing from a portfolio created during a thematic unit. In this writing lesson plan, students working in pairs examine and revise written pieces using action verbs. They add at least 10 action verbs to each piece of writing.

 

WEAVING TECHNOLOGY INTO THEMATIC UNITS  T.O.O.L.S. 2000

Third graders utilize computers and other technology to explain the solar system. Ten different stations involve students through laserdisc, research, art, GeoSafari, space toys, and the computer.

Second graders read different folk tales and discuss them. They are given a templete of a letter and they are to write a friendly letter. Special Educaton students are paired with advanced students to help them.

Japan Thematic Unit

Students engage in a unit about the country of Japan. They explore different subjects to get a holistic perspective of the Japanese culture. Students take a look at the history of the culture and how it has changed over time or not. They answer the overall question: What makes Japan unique?

 

Michigan Native American Thematic Unit

Fourth graders become immersed in the culture of the Native Americans. They use centers in order to experiment making different Indian crafts. Students also investigate the origin of my name and see if their is a possibility.

 

Weaving Technology into Thematic Units

Eighth graders are taught to give an understanding of an author's time period and life. Teachers support the writing process and research techniques with technology and research books. Alternative assessment is used for evaluation.
