Students create visual representations of ecosystems. In this ecology lesson, students discuss the interdependence of plants and animals in various ecosystems. Students cut pictures from magazines and glue them on sturdy blocks. Using the blocks, a layered ecosystem is constructed. Students remove blocks and discuss reasons and the results of these changes.
Young scholars explore four Native American tribes from Nevada. In this Native American history lesson, students identify and generate important corresponding attributes of the Southern Paiute, Northern Paiute, Washoe, and Western Shoshone tribes. Young scholars complete a graphic organizer using a variety of sources, and then write a summary paragraph about one of these Native American tribes.
Young scholars create a camp for the future. In this simulation activity, students will research various energy sources, and create a proposal for the "city council" to recommend what energy sources should be used for a summer camp in the year 2050.
Fourth graders explore West Virginia. In this Unites States geography lesson, 4th graders discuss the type of land and the cities in West Virginia. Students create two overlays, with transparencies, that show the natural land and the cities and towns. Students have small group discussions. Excellent black line masters are embedded in this lesson.
Students view Ode to Chief Seattle and create an animal sculpture. In this art instructional activity, students choose a variety of materials for creating an animal sculpture using flora and fauna and other environmental images. Students discuss the symbols in Ode to Chief Seattle.
Students explore life science by completing a biology related experiment in class. In this DNA strand lesson, students read assigned text which describes DNA and the structural complexities of a single DNA strand. Students utilize string, yarn or floss to create a bracelet and different color beads to represent the DNA code.
Students identify diet related chronic diseases in US. In this health science lesson, students examine a family's diet; specifically fats and cholesterol intake. They create a health meal plan.
Tenth graders complete a directed study, form the internet, and then complete activities.
Students explore the concept of West Virginia. In this geography instructional activity, students identify the WV on a map, it's emblems and seal, and state trees and animals. Students also learn about the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly, the state butterfly.
Students examine the changing practices of aquaculture. They discuss the short term and long term consequences stemming from fish farming.
