Students study about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. They express and share their thoughts and attitudes toward wars. They listen to a picture book about the Wall and read an introductory text about the Vietnam
Learners research American symbols. In this American History lesson, students listen to the story The Wall and discuss the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. They also listen to One Nation and research an American Symbol to create a poster.
Students analyze the feelings of Americans regarding the Vietnam War. For this Vietnam War lesson, students collaborate to research Internet and print sources regarding the perspectives on U.S. involvement in the war. Students participate in a simulation that requires them to consider how they would react to being called to service in Vietnam.
Students share what they know about the Vietnam War before examining how the war was viewed and by people who lived during that period. They write essays expressing opinions on why it is still difficult for Americans to discuss the war.
Students examine the Vietnam war. They listen to and discuss the book, "The Wall," by Eve Bunting, conduct Internet research, and write a letter or send a card to U.S. military veterans in a local Veteran's Hospital.
Students recognize reasons to celebrate Memorial Day. Students create a map of victims of the VIetnam War. Using the internet, students research information about soldiers from their state who were killd in action in Vietnam. Students explore the sacrificies of soldiers.
Students study the Vietnam War, the reason for U.S. intervention into the conflict and the uniqueness of the fighting in Vietnam. As a class they read selected letters written by U.S. soldiers serving in Vietnam, explore the primary conflict, slang associated with the war, and the tone of the letters. Students write letters to a soldier, create a time line, and observe relevant video clips.
Students explore world trade issues. In this economics instructional activity, students read "Opening Doors to Vietnam," and discuss the trade negotiations between Vietnam and the Untied States. Students conduct further research on the topic and interview Vietnam vets or protesters about their opinions on the negotiations.
Students visit memorials for Vietnam Veteran's in Washington D.C. and create a PowerPoint for their trip. In this Washington D.C. field trip lesson, students plan and visit a Washington D.C. Vietnam Veteran's Memorial. Students create a PowerPoint about the trip and write thank you notes to the field trip leaders. Students create and edit a video for the lesson.
Eighth graders research U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. They view actual footage and Hollywood clips. They form opinions about the war and complete a project from a list of suggestions regarding the war and make presentations to the rest of the class.
