Fourth graders examine art critically and discuss art they have made, art made by their peers, and art made by recognized artists. They add to their art vocabulary and use it accurately to discuss art.
Second graders use weather instruments to investigate weather attributes, gather and record data. In groups, they brainstorm items that can measure wind direction, temperature and precipitation. Students take temperatures in direct sunlight and then in the shade. They discuss reasons for the apparent discrepancy. After designing wind vanes, 2nd graders observe the vane and record wind directions.
Students make a wind vane, anemometer, wind spiral, and wind streamer to calculate wind movement. In this wind lesson plan, students test each of their wind instruments, and graph the results of the wind speed in different locations.
First graders explore the country of Mexico. They read and write about the country and learning centers provide students with hands-on activities.
Students study how to forecast the weather. In this weather forecasting lesson students read different meters and understand basic cloud formations in their relationship to weather.
Second graders explore weather. In this weather lesson plan, 2nd graders read Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs and participate in four supplemental science activities. Students participate in Internet research, create weather maps, illustrate pictures, and design a food pyramid.
First graders examine various familiar sayings and phrases. They read and discuss the phrases, participate in role-playing, create illustrations for the phrases, and compare/contrast proverbs and phrases.
Fourth graders use a barometer, anemometer, rain gauge, and hygrometer to build a weather station. In this weather station lesson plan, 4th graders distinguish between the uses of each kind of weather instrument.
Ninth graders design an experiment using their chosen weather tool. In this earth science lesson, 9th graders collect data based on their written procedure. They graph and infer from data collected. Class presentation of findings follows.
Students investigate weather patterns. They gather data from temperature and water gauges set up on the school grounds, record the data on a spreadsheet, and write a paragraph about how the weather affected them and the playground.
