Word Pronunciation Lesson Plans

Sixth graders play a game. In this comprehension lesson, 6th graders learn new vocabulary words and use them in a sentence. Students listen to "Make the Connection" and discuss the elements of literature, concentrating on conflict. Students divide into groups and play a game where they practice matching words, pronunciation and definitions.

Students explore how migration to Harlem created a new life for African Americans. In this cross curricular lesson, students illustrate maps showing the migration, paint murals representing African American life in the South and create a brochure of the important landmarks in Harlem.

Students read and understand the book Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt. In this language lesson, students understand the Ebonics and colloquialisms of the book. Students discuss the events and vocabulary used. Students explain their understandings of economics, and lifestyles of the North and South.

Students interpret and adapt Hamlet's "To Be Or Not To Be" monologue using the online Visual Thesaurus. They recite the monologue from Hamlet, analyze and write a contemporary version of the monologue using the Visual Thesaurus, and present their adaptation to the class.

Explore Native American music. Listen to several examples of Native American music. Locate the tribes on maps and practice pronouncing words in the Cherokee language. Write out rhythmic accompaniment or a melodic introduction.

Students explore language arts by completing a card playing activity with classmates. In this vocabulary identification lesson, students utilize a deck of cards with words written on them to participate in a word pronunciation game against an opponent. Students win the game by successfully pronouncing the most words in class.

Learners create a habitat. In this turtle lesson, students brainstorm what a habitat is and gather information about sea and land turtles to complete a Venn Diagram. Learners write a short report on sea turtles and design a habitat for a sea turtle.

Students practice using several different writing techniques in class to expand their English knowledge.  In this English language learning lesson plan, students complete mini writing lessons for several days while trying to feel comfortable in a writing environment. 

Learners examine how connected speech can change pronunciation. Using worksheets imbedded in this plan, students work in small groups to practice their skills of pronunciation.
