Students use proper writing techniques to write an effective description of the best or worst meal they have ever eaten. In this proper writing techniques lesson, students review the parts of a composition and discuss was to elaborate. Students then identify examples of padded sentences and revise before checking for variation in sentence structure.
Learners write a memoir using effective openings. They research the process and work through a list of hooks to use in their writing. They use at least 2 hooks to begin their personal memoir. A great way to convey narrative writing techniques.
Students comprehend and identify the techniques used by authors with descriptive writing. They identify parts of speech in descriptions. Students identify figures of speech in descriptions: similes, metaphors, and personifications.
Students examine the writing techniques of professional authors and apply them to their own work. In pairs, they email authors to discover the tricks of the trade. Students create their own Website for their work.
Second graders investigate the beginnings, middles, and endings of stories. In this writing technique lesson plan, 2nd graders discuss how an author creates a good beginning to hook readers. They also discuss how the ending provides closure.
Use Narrative writing techniques to understand the writing traits of idea development and voice. The class reads Marshfield Dreams by Ralph Fletcher, then practices authentic writing for standardized tests as they write a personal narrative.
Fifth graders role-play a test taking atmosphere while taking a practice test and examine a variety of test-taking strategies. Students use the scientific method explicitly and independently to solve a problem/answer a question. They are able to write complete and comprehensive lab protocol that helps answer a question and use appropriate grammar and writing technique in writing their lab protocol. Students use creativity and originality to answer a question and better examine how to implement the scientific method.
