Students look around their community for examples of geometrical shapes and to consider how these shapes reflect different cultures. Working students then graph the frequency of shapes.

Students identify basic shapes, name basic shapes, and match shapes with names. They find shapes hidden in pictures.

Kindergarten - 2nd

Students visit a local lake refuge and identify shapes they find in nature. They take pictures of the various shapes and use KidPix to draw shapes around the shapes in the pictures. They watch a slideshow of all the shapes found by their classmates. They fold and create symmetrical butterflies that are displayed around the room.

Students classify and explore shapes. They have opportunities to handle, describe and classify 2D and 3D shapes. At this stage it is not important for students to correctly name the shapes although we expect that many students .

Students graph and pattern shapes. They identify the number of sides and corners of shapes. Students create shapes and identify which holds the greatest or least amount of cubes.
