Vision Lab: The Eye

Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet

Our bodies have some amazing capabilities, but there are some limitations. Explore the limitations of the human eye through the eighth lab activity in a series of 12 biology lessons. Individuals measure their own peripheral vision and blind spots and make comparisons to others in the class. Then they explore depth perception of one versus two eyes and then examine color vision through visual illusions.

Instructional Ideas
  • Use a Google Doc (or similar technology) to record the lab results from all pupils to allow for comparison
  • Create a station with a different lab at each; have collaborative pairs circulate through the stations to complete the lab
Classroom Considerations
  • Requires specific materials and time for set up prior to the activity
Pros
  • Teacher guide provides lesson guidance to aid in planning
  • Includes student handouts with space for data collection and questions to answer
Cons
  • Does not provide links for vision stations in part two of the activity
