spa days and holistic remedies.\u003cbr/\u003ePrincess is a Welsh Corgi and suffers from a slipped disc.\u003cbr/\u003eShe can no longer walk without the help of wheels.\u003cbr/\u003eStill, the 13-year-old isn't lying idle. \u003cbr/\u003eEvery week she meets with her personal trainer for a run on an underwater treadmill, laps in a doggy pool and a relaxing hot spa and massage session.\u003cbr/\u003eMizuo Kurata, Princess' owner says that she is like a daughter to him and he wants to make her final years as comfortable as possible. \u003cbr/\u003eThe ownership of pets has increased in Japan, and many beloved animals are living to well into doggy old age. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to Battersea dogs home very large dogs, such as Great Danes, tend to age early, for their life expectancy is generally less than 10 years.\u003cbr/\u003eLarge and medium-sized breeds have a life expectancy of 11-14 years, and small breeds can live 15 years or more.\u003cbr/\u003eDoting Japanese owners pamper their pets with special foods, vitamins, aromatherapy and even acupuncture.\u003cbr/\u003eAlthough figures are hard to come by, a study published last year showed that life expectancy for cats in Japan almost doubled between 1991 and 2003, to just under 10-years old.\u003cbr/\u003eTakao Ishino, a veterinarians attributes their longer lives to better health care, more vaccinations, a more balanced diet and the new culture that allows pets to live in the family home.\u003cbr/\u003eBut as with humans, longer lives for dogs, has led to an increase in illnesses seldom seen, such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease and dementia. \u003cbr/\u003eIshino says that sometimes the owners spoil their dogs and even put them before their needs before those of their children. \u003cbr/\u003eKyuta, an 8-year-old long-haired Chihuahua, started twice-weekly acupuncture sessions at the Kamakura Genki Animal Hospital in Kakamura, a city south of Tokyo after severe back pain struck two years ago.\u003cbr/\u003eThe pair travel two hours each way by train for the acupuncture sessions, which cost $47 (US Dollars). \u003cbr/\u003eEmi Matsuya, Kyuta's owner said, that she is more than happy to feed him homemade meals of meat and vegetables now that he is getting
