The EU already imposed a domestic ban on those products, which it tightened Sunday.\u003cbr/\u003eEating those parts from infected animals is believed to present a high risk to human health.\u003cbr/\u003eOther countries, including Argentina, Australia, Botswana, Brazil, Chile, Namibia, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Paraguay, Singapore, Uruguay and Swaziland, have been\u003cbr/\u003eexempted from the restrictions because EU scientists have deemed them «highly unlikely» to be at risk from mad cow disease.\u003cbr/\u003eMad cow disease is believed to cause a brain-wasting illness in humans, known as variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, which has killed some 80 Europeans since the mid-1990s, mostly in Britain. \u003cbr/\u003eThe disease can be transmitted easily, by dirt on vehicle tires, clothes, shoes, even through the air.
