These improvement are a tribute to the power of cooperation. Central banks moved together, helping to dampen liquidity pressures. Fiscal programs were more effective because they were done on a broad scale across the major economies. The stabilisation of conditions in the major financial centres has helped underpin improvements in the flow of capital to emerging markets, the agility and creativity shown by the IMF and the World Bank have released financial resources to those countries where the pressures were most acute, helping to mitigate loss of capital flows in external demand.\"\u003cbr/\u003e14. our economies\" and agreeing to ask the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to study ways to unwind hefty stimulus packages.\u003cbr/\u003eIn a communique released at the end of a two-day meeting Lecce, the group's finance officials said that although the global economy was still weak, so-called exit strategies from monetary and fiscal stimulus measures - like tax cuts and lower interest rates - were \"essential to promote a sustainable recovery over the long term.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe ministers said they had asked the IMF to analyze potential strategies to assist with the process.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever, ministers from the US, Japan, Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Canada, Russia and the European Union added that the \"situation remains uncertain and significant risks heads of state next month (July) in L'Aquila in central Italy.\u003cbr/\u003eFinancial markets have rallied over the past three months on better-than-expected economic data, but there are worries in the US and Britain that continental Europe has not done enough to deal with the recession. \u003cbr/\u003eAnd the World Bank forecast on Thursday the global economy will contract 3.0 per cent this year, far worse than a previous estimate of minus 1.75 per cent.\u003cbr/\u003eGermany has been a particularly strong critic of the lower interest rates, tax cuts and measures to boost the money supply that have been employed by countries including Britain and the US, warning they are potentially inflationary and deficit-building.\u003cbr/\u003eThe communique also spelt out the need for a set of common principles and standards for propriety, integrity and transparency in international business and finance.\u003cbr/\u003eThey agreed on the objectives of a strategy, dubbed the Lecce thousand anti-globalisation protesters marched peacefully through the historic centre of the southern Italian town in protest of the meeting, shouting slogans including \"G-8, economy, lies,\" and
