From our collection we had the opportunity to introduce works from across Africa. We don't often see them in the southern part of the continent, and it's really what all the major collectors and institutions would like to see.\" \u003cbr/\u003eOrganisers hope this exhibition will be given the opportunity to travel as widely as possible. \u003cbr/\u003eStanes says he would be hard-pressed to pick out a favourite objet d'art. But he admits to having a fondness for textiles. \u003cbr/\u003eHe says: \"Some countries are more known for young vibrant artists than others. I love this textile work behind me. It's different, it's fresh, we see very little textile work at the fair, and that for me is always a bonus.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe textile Stanes likes so much is by an Equatorial Guinean artist who writes poetry to accompany his work, which is inspired by the sea that surrounds his Malabo island home. \u003cbr/\u003eOther installations include more modern mediums video and neon.\u003cbr/\u003eThese sculpted glass heads attract the attention of younger and older visitors.\u003cbr/\u003eSome of the works are more challenging and controversial.\u003cbr/\u003eAmerican photographer Ayana Vellissia Jackson moved to South Africa five years ago, to explore art on the continent. \u003cbr/\u003eThis shows Jackson dressed in a white Christian missionary-style dress, surrounded by multiple images of her naked self. \u003cbr/\u003eShe was drawn by the vibrancy of the African art market.\u003cbr/\u003eJackson wants to be a part of what she believes is an emergence of contemporary art from artists from Africa.\u003cbr/\u003eThe art reflects current issues within their own communities, the reality of everyday living.\u003cbr/\u003eJackson,  who is originally from New Jersey, takes nude self portraits and uses photographic techniques to add herself to scenes inspired by classic tableaux. \u003cbr/\u003eOne stark photograph shows a naked Jackson sitting on the ground holding a weapon, with a traditional Tuareg scarf wrapped round her head. \u003cbr/\u003eThe photograph was produced after the artist visited Mali earlier this year. \u003cbr/\u003eJackson says: \"Very often when you talk about subjects like war or voyeurism or missionaries or the colonial moment, usually the subject is being photographed by someone else. The act of myself reflecting myself... helps people to not feel that I'm speaking from a voyeuristic standpoint.\"  \u003cbr/\u003eGrowing up in the strife of Zimbabwe has had a profound effect on 27-year old Richard Mudariki.\u003cbr/\u003eHis art reflects his experiences, his upbringing in Zimbabwe, the social upheaval in his homeland and the challenges his country still faces.\u003cbr/\u003e\"My art is more social commentary.
