If I can change just one or two of them  that would be a blessing for me and a blessing for them, you know, that I did do  something for my community.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPERCAPTION: Brother Pete, Eucharist Minister\u003cbr/\u003eWith nowhere to go and nothing to do, all that is left for these children is to stare into a  bleak future.\u003cbr/\u003eMore than four thousand people live in the Henry Horner complex.\u003cbr/\u003eEveryday life is a check list of problems: crime, drugs, unemployment, teenage  pregnancy, welfare, bad housing.\u003cbr/\u003eMattie Williams has lived here for 35 years.\u003cbr/\u003eShe says children need something to do, something to occupy their minds, somewhere  to play.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We should have that and I think that would stop the crime rate so much if you had, cos  like the saying an idle mind is the devil's workshop. I mean there are some people that just can't do it.\u003cbr/\u003e(Why do you think that is?)\u003cbr/\u003eI don't know I think they just got caught up in all of this, all of this here, this, all of this,  all this.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPERCAPTION: Maurice Henderson, Resident of Henry Horner Housing Project\u003cbr/\u003eGang members hang out at the entrance to the housing project - a project just yards  from the convention centre where President Clinton will outline his vision for America.\u003cbr/\u003eBut it is a vision that probably won't mean much to these young men.\u003cbr/\u003eMitchell Johnson, who works for one of Chicago's inner city youth projects and knows  the area well, is sceptical. \u003cbr/\u003e\"I have seen over a period of years, every President steps in and say what he going to  do for the inner city and the urban areas, only thing we see is poverty and destruction.  I  mean I really look at this as a disaster area.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPERCAPTION:  Mitchell Johnson, Gang Intervention Director, Inner Youth  Foundation\u003cbr/\u003eDoing their bit to make things a little brighter, Brothers Michael and Pete tour the  projects every day.\u003cbr/\u003eThey hand out food to more than one thousand people.\u003cbr/\u003eBy and large the lay preachers move freely in areas where few others would dare to go.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I don't think I have a problem with any gang leadership, I don't think, do I?  I am thought  of as a five-star universal, that is I am a gang leader myself.  It is much easier to make  peace treaties these days than it ever used to.  We make peace treaties ourselves.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPERCAPTION: Brother Michael, Eucharist Minister\u003cbr/\u003eAnd when trouble flares, Brother Michael is in the middle of it. \u003cbr/\u003e\"One time we were in gunfire and Michael walked up.  And I was knowing him right, and  I had to stop the guys from shooting him right, cos they were still shooting, there was  about 60 or 70 guns out there, there was a lot of gunfire and he was out there, he was  on this knees praying and everything and I stopped the guys from shooting.
