Pull out woman lying on massage table, wrapped in mud treatment\u003cbr/\u003eIn today's economic climate, many people around the globe are cutting back on life's luxuries. \u003cbr/\u003eFor women, this might mean forgoing that costly haircut or pricey pedicure.\u003cbr/\u003eBut according to International Spa Association (ISPA) officials, women are still paying for pampering treatments, despite the hard financial times. \u003cbr/\u003eThe spa industry is almost an $11 billion (US) dollar business, which saw an a $1.5 billion (US) dollar increase between 2006 and 2007, according to ISPA officials. \u003cbr/\u003eThere are more than 18,000 spas in the U.S. alone.  \u003cbr/\u003eAt the 14th annual ISPA event in New York City on Thursday, more than 25 spas showcased this year's hot trends and the some of the new techniques hitting the marketplace. \u003cbr/\u003eLynn McNees, President of ISPA, says spa treatments have become a lifestyle for many and is no longer just for the rich and famous. \u003cbr/\u003eTherapists at the expo demonstrated everything from basic Swedish massage, to the WiFi massage - a treatment designed specifically for those who have sore thumbs and necks from mobile phone use. \u003cbr/\u003eAt the Spa at Colonial Williamsburg in Virgina, visitors can try out the WiFi massage for one hour at $120 US dollars. \u003cbr/\u003eTying nutrition and health guidance into the spa experience is becoming more and more popular at spas around the country. \u003cbr/\u003eAt the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Spa in California clients are offered a special treatment called the active metabolic training assessment. \u003cbr/\u003eIt measures how efficiently the body burns calories while at rest and while exercising.  Then experts help the client create a nutrition plan and workout regime to help them achieve and maintain optimal health. \u003cbr/\u003eAt the Lodge at Woodloch Spa in Pennsylvania laughter is the key ingredient in a recipe for wellness. \u003cbr/\u003eThe spa has a magician on site who performs card and magic tricks, making people smile.  \u003cbr/\u003eSpa owner Ginny Lopis says there is clinical proof that laughter improves health.  And the visitors to the New York expo seemed to agree. \"I got such a great laugh,\" said Melissa Hill. \"It's just like my mood has actually increased, so I guess I am a believer.\"  \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to ISPA officials, another emerging trend is the increase in the number of men who visit spas. \u003cbr/\u003eChairman of ISPA, Jim Root says 31% of spa goers are men. \"It's not about cucumbers on eyes. It's really a guy thing,\" he says.  \u003cbr/\u003eSo despite tight budgets, it appears that Americans are still enjoying moments of self-indulgence to relieve their stress. \u003cbr/\u003e\"I get a massage every week. Can I afford it? No. Do I need it, yes. But I work out every day and I'm sitting at my computer all day while I'm writing, so I'm tense, I'm stressed. I think everybody needs a massage for therapeutic reasons,\" says journalist Margie Goldsmith.\u003cbr/\u003eAt the Spa at the Mandarin Oriental in Manhattan, luxury is the buzz word. \u003cbr/\u003eFor $1,270 US dollars, a couple can rent out the V.I.P. spa suite, and receive 3 hours of various treatments.  \u003cbr/\u003eOne of the most popular is a centuries-old technique called \"cupping.\" \u003cbr/\u003eTherapists heat up glass jars and place them on the client's back. \u003cbr/\u003eThe treatment is said to extract toxins from the body. \u003cbr/\u003eNicole Yih, Assistant Spa Director at the Mandarin Oriental, has been in the industry for more than 15 years.  \u003cbr/\u003eShe says the main difference between now and when she started out, is that people are
