the Parthenon Marbles to Greece say London doesn't deserve to receive the Olympic flame because of the British Museum's insistence on keeping the collection of sculptures prized from the Parthenon more than 200 years ago while Greece was still under Ottoman rule.\u003cbr/\u003eOrganisers of Thursday's flame lighting ceremony at Ancient Olympia have ignored protesters' demands to link the two issues, while the activists themselves have not ruled out staging peaceful protests during the Greek leg of the torch relay to try and raise awareness for their campaign.\u003cbr/\u003eAhead of the lighting ceremony of the Olympic flame, activists from the International Parthenon Sculptures Action committee have demanded Britain return figurines removed from the Parthenon in the 19th century.\u003cbr/\u003eGreeks call them the Parthenon Marbles, but they are also known as the Elgin Marbles. \u003cbr/\u003eBritain's Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, Thomas Bruce, the 7th Earl of Elgin, gained permission from the Ottomans to detach the figures from the Acropolis and send them to Britain. \u003cbr/\u003eThey are now on display in the British Museum in London.\u003cbr/\u003eAlexis Mantheakis, Chairman of the International Parthenon Sculptures Action Committee says Britain does not deserve to be handed the Olympic flame until it returns the
