Another suicide bomber then blew that up. \u003cbr/\u003eMore than two hundred people were killed, including 88 Australians and seven Americans. Hundreds were injured.\u003cbr/\u003eUmar Patek, an Indonesian, said to be a leading member of the al-Qaida-linked network Jemaah Islamiyah, is accused of helping build the car bomb.\u003cbr/\u003eHe was said to be one of the last few ranking militants with the al-Qaida-linked regional network Jemaah Islamiyah.\u003cbr/\u003eHe was arrested a year ago in Abbottabad, the Pakistan town where Osama bin Laden was killed several months later, and is now awaiting a verdict after a series of hearings.\u003cbr/\u003eState prosecutors have sought a life sentence for the 45-year-old militant known as the \"Demolition Man,\" accused of illegal weapons possession, concealing terrorist acts, immigration violations and premeditated murder.\u003cbr/\u003eBut the court was told that his role was comparatively minor. Patek says he never agreed with the bomb attack and has apologised for the first time to the victims and their families.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I feel sorry for the mistakes I've made. Actually, I never agreed with that action (bombing in Bali). I accept on the basis of Islamic law that the action I took in the bombing was wrong,\" he said in May. \u003cbr/\u003eTaufik Andrie, who has made a careful, detailed study of extremist attacks in Indonesia for many years, has praised the police investigation and the handling of Patek's trial.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Almost all the suspects have been arrested or shot dead. The latest are Dulmatin, who was shot dead, and Umar Patek, who has been arrested and is now undergoing trial. There is a kind of satisfaction because it has eliminated the public's curiosity about the members of the group.
