Woman walks past 'Where Spirit And Semen Met' \u003cbr/\u003eAn exhibition of Middle Eastern art by emerging Arab artists is being hailed as a break through event in London.\u003cbr/\u003eDespite a rich and visual tradition dating back hundreds of years, new artists from the Middle East have struggled to gain exposure as geo-political struggles dominate headlines.\u003cbr/\u003eThose struggles are represented in the artistic interpretation of events, as well as the reality of everyday living that challenges the traditional roles of men and women in the Middle East.\u003cbr/\u003eNineteen Middle Eastern artists are being exhibited at the Saatchi gallery in London, showing their unique perceptions of life to a Western audience.\u003cbr/\u003eMany play on taboo themes such as 'Tehran Prostitutes' by Shirin Fakhim to social critiques as seen in 'Men of Allah' by Ramin Haerizadeh, which  reworks the roles of men and women in Iranian society.\u003cbr/\u003eIn 'Ghost,' Kader Attia's use of tin foil figurines of Muslim women at prayer questions modern ideologies - from religion and nationalism to consumerism.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever, the hollow figurines invoke a different response to some viewers: \"I think is really quite haunting and bring home to me how much the women are repressed,\" says Biddy Rychanovsky, who is also an artist \u003cbr/\u003eAnd that theme of repression can be seen in Shadi Ghadirian's 'Like Everyday' series. It ironically portrays a one dimensional interpretation of housewives, reducing their identities to cleaners and cooks.\u003cbr/\u003ePatricia Ellis, an independent art critic, says the art is from a very considered standpoint, and somes from real-life experiences.\u003cbr/\u003e'Collective Cut' by Iraqi artist Hayv Kahraman explores issues surrounding the female identity in her homeland, and how women are subservient to men and the how they suffer in war.\u003cbr/\u003e\"A lot of the work in this show is very relatable just to everyday to ordinary people,\" says Ellis. \"A lot of the with urban development and social history in the context of conflict, and 'spectre' represents his former apartment building that was evacuated during the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah conflict.\u003cbr/\u003eThe apartment building sits empty, signifying the abandoned lives of its inhabitants.\u003cbr/\u003eLina Lazaar,  a specialist in contemporary art at Sotherby's auction house, says Middle Eastern art had \"lacked historically institutional support and patrons and museums.\" \u003cbr/\u003eShe adds that the exhibition at the Saatchi galley is important because it's only the
