There was a lot of pushing in the queue but I voted peacefully,\" said Musu Kamara, a voter.\u003cbr/\u003eA decade after Sierra Leone's brutal civil war, voters were called to choose between an incumbent President who has provided new roads and free health care and a field of opposition candidates who decry the poverty and pace of economic recovery.\u003cbr/\u003eKoroma won office in 2007 on promises to help uplift the diamond-rich nation and sought to reassure voters with campaign signs that read: \"I Will Do More.\"\u003cbr/\u003eHis supporters especially point to strides made in the country's health care system through a programme offering free medical aid. \u003cbr/\u003eAnd they also see hope for Sierra Leone because of several offshore oil discoveries made in the last three years.\u003cbr/\u003eKoroma faces eight challengers including the leading opposition figure Julius Maada Bio, a retired brigadier-general from the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP).\u003cbr/\u003eKoroma's health care programme has proved enormously popular in a country hard hit by cholera earlier this year and that has one of the highest rates of maternal mortality in the world.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever, doubts remain about the long-term feasibility of the health programme, and the opposition also believes that more needs to be done to promote job creation.\u003cbr/\u003eBio calls himself the \"father of democracy\" after his brief three-month tenure as head of state in 1996 before handing over power to a democratically elected civilian government.\u003cbr/\u003eBio and his supporters maintain the President has failed to deliver on his 2007 election promises and does not deserve a second term.\u003cbr/\u003eSierra Leone already has successfully held several mostly peaceful votes since the end of the civil war. \u003cbr/\u003eThis time the country is bearing the sole responsibility for securing the vote, even though it is being organised with substantial foreign aid of some 46 percent of the\u003cbr/\u003eelection budget.\u003cbr/\u003eMost of the country's nearly six (m) million people live on less than 1.25 US dollars a day, according to World Bank statistics, and life remains especially difficult for the estimated 2,000 people who were seriously maimed during the war.\u003cbr/\u003eTens of thousands died during the
