Zoom out from panel\u003cbr/\u003eMexico, the United States and Canada on Wednesday agreed to protect the monarch butterfly and the vaquita marina, species threatened in Mexico by illegal logging and overfishing.\u003cbr/\u003eMeeting in the central Mexican state of Michoacan, the winter nesting grounds for the monarch butterfly, the tri-national Commission for Environmental Cooperation, or CEC, formally pledged to support conservation initiatives for the monarch and the vaquita marina, the commission said in a news release.\u003cbr/\u003eThe monarch butterfly, which each year travels from Canada to Michoacan, is not listed as endangered, but scientists say deforestation could threaten their existence.\u003cbr/\u003eThe vaquita marina, a grey porpoise native to the Gulf of California, is sometimes caught in fishing nets and its habitat is damaged by shrimpboats that trawl the sea floor. \u003cbr/\u003eOnly 500 of the porpoises are thought to exist, environmentalists say.\u003cbr/\u003eDuring the CEC meeting on Wednesday the US Environmental Protection Agency administrator Stephen Johnson said the United States would find ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
