Tombs\u003cbr/\u003eEnglish/Nat\u003cbr/\u003eEgypt's Culture Minister opened 10 tombs and three pyramids on Tuesday, which were previously closed to the public.\u003cbr/\u003eThe opening is just the start of a comprehensive plan to restore and renovate the Pyramids Plateau, which includes monuments such as the Sphinx and the largest of the great pyramids - belonging to King Cheops .\u003cbr/\u003eAlso reopened after one year of restoration was the Pyramid of King Menkaure, the third largest of the three great pyramids of Giza.\u003cbr/\u003eCamels are a regular sight in Egypt, but on Tuesday, the government allowed the public a much rarer view.\u003cbr/\u003eA group of four tombs, part of a larger collection of ten which will all eventually be displayed, was opened to the public for the first time.\u003cbr/\u003eThe tombs, located on the west side of the great pyramid of Cheops, were discovered about 70 years ago - in poor condition.\u003cbr/\u003eThe renovation is part of a long-term project being carried out by the Egyptian ministry of culture on the Pyramids Plateau.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Menkaure pyramid was also part of the project -  it included clearing graffiti, reinforcing walls and installing a new ventilation system.\u003cbr/\u003eThe tombs are a star attraction because they had never been viewed before, and reveal key information about the Pharaohs' government.\u003cbr/\u003eThey belonged to ministers and aides of the Pharaohs. Their proximity to the Pyramids is an indication of the relationship between the King and his court.\u003cbr/\u003eThere was also an effort to preserve hieroglyphics and drawings on the interior walls.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"For the first time tourists from all over the world will see hidden tombs, that were never shown to the public, 10 tombs are going to be opened, three queens pyramids for the first time to the public. And finally the third pyramid Menkaure will be opened after one year of restoration and conservation and we invite everyone to come by and see the magic and the mystery of the pyramids.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Zahi Hawass, head of the Giza plateau\u003cbr/\u003eThe Queens of Egypt, three small pyramids belonging to the mother and two wives of the forth Dynasty king Cheops, have long been overshadowed by the Great Pyramids.\u003cbr/\u003eThey were opened to the public after lengthy restoration efforts, which included replacing fallen stones and repairing their limestone casings.\u003cbr/\u003eThe work is part of a complete cleanup of the Pyramids Plateau leading up to the opening of the Sphinx at the end of March.\u003cbr/\u003eIt is hoped that the new openings will help boost Egypt's tourism industry, which has suffered since the terrorist attack in Luxor last November that killed 58 tourists.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think it's a wonderful opportunity.
