Bankura...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eEnglish/Nat\u003cbr/\u003eFor the first time in 50 years an outbreak of potentially deadly dengue fever has hit  West Bengal.\u003cbr/\u003eThe disease -  which is spread by mosquitos - has already claimed at least one life and  thousands are infected. \u003cbr/\u003eBankura District in West Bengal is famous for its terracotta, but now it is in danger of  becoming known as the dengue fever capital of India.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Khatara sub division is worst hit - recording its first victims a couple of months ago.\u003cbr/\u003eNow many people are flocking to the local medical centre for treatment.\u003cbr/\u003eDengue fever causes very high temperatures, severe headaches, vomiting, nausea and  diarrhoea.\u003cbr/\u003eDengue fever has not been seen in this area for 50 years and it had been hoped that the  disease had been eradicated.\u003cbr/\u003eBut now its back with a vengeance.\u003cbr/\u003eThe local medical officer estimates that at least a quarter of the population is affected.\u003cbr/\u003eThe population affected is 25-thousand. The Khatara town population is 18-thousand  and the villages close to Khatara are also affected. The total population out of our block  population is 90-thousand, 25-thousand people are affected.
