It is influenced by Alfred Hitchcock and film Noir and the American landscape it also makes a comment on women in film in the 1950's and their roles even today.\"\u003cbr/\u003e10. I mean one of the things I  always find interesting when I fly back to the States - I've been here for a long time - is that you can sort of be in Phoenix, or  be in Burlington Vermont and a lot of the things you see are the same you have the Walmarts you have the strip mall sensation and so the landscape has kind of changed in lots of ways and what this exhibition is showing is kinda how it used to be. Granted every motel you're going to come across in different states is going to be different but this idea that it's no longer that its.. it's kind of become a big world in America and I think this kind of landscape is kind of being lost.\"\u003cbr/\u003e22. Close of neon sign 'Bad'\u003cbr/\u003eA new exhibition at leading London department store Selfridges puts the urban American landscape under the spotlight.\u003cbr/\u003eTaking inspiration from the film noir genre and Alfred Hitchcock's movies, artist Tracey Snellings' neon installation speaks about the changing scenery in the US as well as the role of women in film.\u003cbr/\u003e'Woman on the Run' is the latest multi media artwork to showcase at Selfridges 'Ultra lounge' in London. \u003cbr/\u003eArtist Tracey Snelling's miniatures are tiny tributes to ordinary American settings. \u003cbr/\u003eHer small-scale renderings of run-down, neglected and overlooked buildings cast a nostalgic look back at a landscape of handmade signs, ad hoc architecture and highway development that is rapidly disappearing.\u003cbr/\u003eTracey says she is influenced by Alfred Hitchcock, film noir and the American landscape. \u003cbr/\u003eBefore experimenting with sculpture, Snelling worked primarily in photography, a medium that is still central to her work.\u003cbr/\u003eSnelling's miniatures often begin with a photograph that she has taken or found. \u003cbr/\u003eOnce she has re-created the photograph's subject, Snelling photographs her miniatures in real-world settings, often creating surreal images depicting complex relationships between varying levels of representation.\u003cbr/\u003eSnelling says she wanted her latest work to comment on women in film in the 1950's and the many roles women play in modern society today. \u003cbr/\u003eHer latest work focuses on a young woman in an ambiguous scenario attempting to escape. \u003cbr/\u003eSnelling says that the woman in her work is wanted by the police for the disappearance of her husband. \u003cbr/\u003eSnelling gives the viewer clues through out the installation through film and images. \u003cbr/\u003eThe viewer is then left to decide if she really is the cold blooded killer. \u003cbr/\u003eSnelling says her work pays tribute to ordinary American settings. \u003cbr/\u003eGinanne Brownell is an arts Journalist.
