Wide of researchers operating computers at Kim Chaek University of Technology\u003cbr/\u003eA computer programme developed by a North Korean university can help people choose the perfect haircut.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Fop app is all about style without the pain.\u003cbr/\u003eRyu Un Sun is posing for a photo to help her to choose her next haircut. \u003cbr/\u003eYou can't download this app, but if you're in North Korea and you want to have a haircut, you might like to give this programme a try.\u003cbr/\u003eAll you need to do is to get a digital photo of yourself, put it into the computer, run the programme, and it will show you what you look like with all kinds of different hair styles.\u003cbr/\u003eIts North Korean developers have called it \"Fop\" in English - an old-fashioned word that many English speakers today might not recognise, meaning a stylish person, someone who cares a lot about their appearance.\u003cbr/\u003eIt translates into Korean as \"motjaengi\". \u003cbr/\u003eIt has been developed at one of North Korea's leading academic institutions - Kim Chaek University of Technology.\u003cbr/\u003eAlthough the university's researchers are very keen to develop popular applications like this hairdressing software, they are also careful to put it all into the context of their country's ideology.\u003cbr/\u003eProfessor Choe Sun Yong of the university's Operating System Study and Development Centre of Information Science and Technology College explains that this hairdressing software is aimed at helping people choose a hairstyle that's in line with North Korea's \"Songun\" policy.\u003cbr/\u003eSongun translates literally as \"army first\", and it's the policy that was made a priority under the rule of Kim Jong Il since the 1990s.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Our research team has developed this hair dressing tool. It fits in with a socialist sense of beauty, with the idea of making a hair style look beautiful according to faces of people of different ages, with different jobs, and in keeping with the requirements of the Songun era,\" explains Professor Choe.\u003cbr/\u003eBut the software is designed to be flexible - it doesn't force you to choose a certain haircut, and users can input new styles to add to its database:\u003cbr/\u003e\"'Fop' is a good programme which allows people to input their faces into their computers and see what kind of hairstyle is going to suit them. The Fop programme enables us to see at one glance various hairstyles without going to a beauty parlor and having our hair done, so I think women will like it a lot.\"\u003cbr/\u003eRi Hyo Nam who also tried the programme says  \"In the past I had to choose a hairstyle which I liked by looking at photos at a barber shop. But I am now happy to see which hairstyle will go well with my face by looking at the Fop programme.\"  \u003cbr/\u003eComputers and digital cameras are now widespread among more well-off North Koreans living in the capital Pyongyang.\u003cbr/\u003eThe \"Fop\" hair dressing application developed at Kim Chaek University has a lot of appeal for North Koreans who have the time and money to devote to perfecting their appearance.\u003cbr/\u003eBut within North Korea's socialist system, cut off from the internet, it's not clear how this software will be able to reach the consumers that
