This is a  real crisis, this is an epidemic. \u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Dr. Eduardo Interiano, Minister of Public Health\u003cbr/\u003eThe epidemic is filling hospital beds around the country.\u003cbr/\u003eThe mosquito-borne dengue strikes quickly leaving its victims with a high fever and  severe pain in the joints. \u003cbr/\u003eIn the most severe cases its victims suffer internal bleeding and death.\u003cbr/\u003eA deadlier form of dengue fever - hemorrhagic fever - has claimed two lives putting the  country on maximum alert.\u003cbr/\u003eOfficials are orchestrating a national awareness campaign in a bid to beat the spread of  the disease. \u003cbr/\u003eHealth inspectors are travelling throughout El Salvador with public address systems  explaining to villagers how the disease is spread.\u003cbr/\u003eThe dengue mosquito breeds in water that pools in everything from stagnant water to  the tops of bamboo fence poles.\u003cbr/\u003ePresently we have destroyed a hundred thousand nests,  benefiting five hundred  thousand people. But remember, there are 5.5 million people in this country and we  have a lot to do still.
