Wide shot of same\u003cbr/\u003eThe Tokyo Stock Price Index or TOPIX marked a record high for the year Thursday on the back of a sharp overnight rally on Wall Street following an unexpected interest rate cut by the U-S Federal Reserve. \u003cbr/\u003eThe U-S dollar fell against the yen.\u003cbr/\u003eThe benchmark 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average finished up 226.49 points, or 1.66 percent, to 13,868.28. \u003cbr/\u003eOn Wednesday, the average climbed 574.70 points, or 4.4 percent.\u003cbr/\u003eThe dollar bought 122.14 yen at 3 p.m. (0600 GMT), down 0.74 yen from late Wednesday in Tokyo and also below its late New York level of 122.36 yen overnight.\u003cbr/\u003eOn the stock market, the Nikkei index began the day on a positive note as investors bid up technology issues and telecommunications stocks amid follow-through bullish sentiment from the United States, where the Fed announced Wednesday it was reducing key short-term interest rates by 0.5 percentage point.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Fed's fourth cut this year boosted investor hopes that the U-S economy and earnings will rebound by the end of 2001.\u003cbr/\u003eThe broader Tokyo Stock Price Index of all issues listed on the first section closed up 17.51 points, or 1.32 percent, at 1,337.92 Thursday. \u003cbr/\u003eThe TOPIX ended up 34.88 points, or 2.7 percent, the day before.\u003cbr/\u003eIn currency dealings, the dollar slipped against the yen as interest rate differentials between the U.S. and Japan narrowed with the latest U.S. rate cut. Lower interest rates generally tend to make a country's currency less attractive.\u003cbr/\u003eIn other currencies, the euro was traded at 108.11 yen, down from 108.48 yen late Wednesday in Tokyo.\u003cbr/\u003eThe yield on the benchmark 10-year Japanese government bond was unchanged from Wednesday's finish of 1.5000 percent. \u003cbr/\u003eIts price remained the same at
