Various of sign for World Economic Forum \u003cbr/\u003eA Chinese automobile company has turned to new and alternative energy sources in an effort to power ahead in the domestic and international car market.\u003cbr/\u003eFoton, a state-owned company founded in 1996, is one of China's emerging brands and has become a major player in Asia for commercial vehicles like trucks and buses - traditionally vehicles considered 'gas guzzlers'.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever Foton is trying to turn that reputation around by focusing much of their development strategy and research funding on vehicles that don't depend on petrol.\u003cbr/\u003eFoton believes it won't catch up market-wise with the big brands by competing with them in the established petrol-powered vehicle market.\u003cbr/\u003eAt the factory and research centre on the outskirts of Beijing, Foton is instead exploring electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles and others which use alternative fuel sources.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Our specific goal is still to make a completely electric vehicle.
