Wide shot of Gaza street \u003cbr/\u003eIsrael's Discount Bank on Tuesday said it is severing ties with banks operating in Palestinian areas, in a new blow to the beleaguered Hamas-led government. \u003cbr/\u003eThe decision will make it much more difficult for Palestinians, both the government and private business people, to continue their substantial financial dealings with Israeli businesses.\u003cbr/\u003eOnly two Israeli banks are authorised to handle such transactions. With Tuesday's announcement, both banks are now set to cut ties. \u003cbr/\u003eBank Discount officials said are worried they could run afoul of anti-terrorism laws if they continue dealing with the Hamas-led government. \u003cbr/\u003eThe US, European Union and Israel have branded Hamas, which refuses to recognise israel nor renounce violence,  a \"terrorist\" group. \u003cbr/\u003eAs Hamas has refused to meet the terms set by the International community, the vast majority of foreign financial aid to the Palestinians has been cut off, depriving government workers of their salaries for months.\u003cbr/\u003eReacting to Israel's further tightening of funds, Hani Al-Shawwa, Director of the Bank of Palestine, told AP Television on Tuesday that it is the \"responsibility of the world community to try and influence the Israelis to come to their senses and not to play this very dangerous game.\"\u003cbr/\u003eBanks in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip often have had to refuse to accept cheque deposits and cash withdrawals in recent days due to a simple lack of cash.\u003cbr/\u003eAl-Shawwa said the situation in the territories was endangering \"the livelihood of ordinary people that have no say in what ever happens, they are children, sick people.
