Various of peasants celebrating with dancing the salvation of the village, ends with close of show\u003cbr/\u003eThe Incas ruled Peru from the 1430s until the arrival of the Spaniards in 1532, constructing stone-block cities and roads and developing a highly organised society that extended from modern-day Colombia to Chile. \u003cbr/\u003eInca and colonial influences are both in evidence in the historic city of Cusco, which receives 850-thousand visitors each year. \u003cbr/\u003eNow a successful theatre performance is reviving Andean stories from the ancient Inca world. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Chaska, an Andean story\" is a spectacular performance of drama, dance, acrobatics, live music and a magnificent show of light and sound. \u003cbr/\u003eThe original script is inspired by the myths and the history of pre-Columbine Peru. \u003cbr/\u003eIt tells the story of a teenage girl call Chaska. \u003cbr/\u003eChaska's village, Kusillaqta, is no longer favoured by the gods and has been condemned to the darkness. \u003cbr/\u003eSo young Chaska is chosen to travel to the Apu, the mountain-god, to make an offering.\u003cbr/\u003eEscorted by the Old Wise Man and the comic Ukuku, a mocking spirit from the Andes, Chaska starts her journey. \u003cbr/\u003eShe meets the Moche people, well known for their ritual human sacrifices, and learns of the god Kon, creator of the universe. \u003cbr/\u003eWith knowledge comes wisdom and Chaska soon finds that her mission is far more important that she thought. \u003cbr/\u003eClaudia Mori, the actress who plays 'Chaska', says that her character evolves from \"teenager to woman and then to goddess\". \u003cbr/\u003eShe says that Chaska accepts that her fate is to die to save her people. \u003cbr/\u003eThe play is performed by the theatre group, Kusikay. Both started around 18 months ago.\u003cbr/\u003eKusikay is a quechua word which means \" to bring happiness\". \u003cbr/\u003eBefore Kusikay, Cusco didn't have a theatre. \u003cbr/\u003eThe old Garcilaso theatre was then an Evangelical church. \u003cbr/\u003eThe members of Kusikay had to rebuild the theatre and prepare the building at the same time they were producing, planning and rehearsing the play. \u003cbr/\u003eLucho Ramirez plays the Old Wise Man. \u003cbr/\u003eHe says it is a fast, breathtaking show that fuses many styles of contemporary art and dance to re-tell ancient Andean stories.   \u003cbr/\u003eHistorian and writer Eduardo San Roman adapted the Andean myths and history for the script. \u003cbr/\u003eRocio Tovar, a successful Peruvian director, directed the show in its initial stages. \u003cbr/\u003eDozens of actors and aspiring actors, singers, musicians and acrobats were cast - mainly from Cusco. \u003cbr/\u003eOne of the main aims of the project was to set up the foundations for a solid and lasting local theatre. \u003cbr/\u003eThe current director in charge of the production, Renzo, says that some of the older actors had experience, but for most of the younger people this was their first experience of acting. \u003cbr/\u003eHe says that they began the process of preparing the performance with a series of workshops which gave everyone a chance to get to know each other. \u003cbr/\u003eThe play has been on for a year now with five performances per week and has been seen by around 35, 000 people so far. \u003cbr/\u003eKusikay has also been invited to theatre festivals in Chile, Venezuela and even Italy. \u003cbr/\u003eHowever, the company is still undecided about these trips since moving a staff of over 90 people, and the material that the play requires is a costly operation.\u003cbr/\u003eThe company receives no state funds and must raise money from private companies. \u003cbr/\u003eAnd in 2009 the challenge is to develop a new
