Brown and Gurgenidze walk away\u003cbr/\u003eBritish Prime Minister Gordon Brown said on Friday that his government had taken \"decisive action\" in dealing with the financial crisis that had threatened to cripple the UK's biggest mortgage lender.\u003cbr/\u003eLloyds TSB, Britain's largest provider of checking accounts, announced on Thursday a 12.2 (b) billion pound (21.85 billion US dollar) deal to take over struggling HBOS - Britain's biggest mortgage lender - making HBOS the latest victim of the global credit crisis. \u003cbr/\u003eThe British government said it would facilitate the deal by overriding anti-monopoly regulations.\u003cbr/\u003eBrown said that the financial watchdog, the Financial Services Authority, had acted to curb \"short-selling\" of listed financial firm stocks - in which traders look to profit from falling share prices - to try to quell the turmoil in the market.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We took decisive action working with HBOS and Lloyds TSB.
